Rolfing Structural Integration is a unique system of bodywork that aligns and balances the body's architecture. By releasing chronic tension patterns in the connective tissue, long held postural patterns are shed for a more relaxed, centered way of being.
Connective tissue, or fascia, is a tissue that acts as the support system for the entire body. Healthy connective tissue is characterized by flexibility, elasticity, length, and resilience. The tissue absorbs and responds to forces but illness, injury, emotional trauma, and everyday stress will cause strain and imbalances to accumulate . Under the Rolfer’s careful hands, the tissue can be loosened, lengthened, and shifted to balance and align to the body.
CranioSacral is a gentle style of hands-on work that engages the body’s self-healing potential. This work optimizes our health by releasing mechanical restrictions that irritate the system causing tension to build. It allows the body to let go of a lifetime of tension and strain safely, at its own pace.
Because CranioSacral is about connecting with our inherent therapeutic potency is not limited to just the cranium. The work is effective throughout the entire body. The practitioner carefully “listens” to how the body is functioning and supports the tissues through still point and release fine-tuning the biorhythmic forces.
"Allow physiologic function within to manifest its own unerring potency rather than apply a blind force from without."
William G. Sutherland, D.O.
Visceral Manipulation involves the release of tension in the ligaments of the organs in the body. It is a gentle, but relatively deep tissue therapy with the entire emphasis on making sure that the organs move and glide freely. Frequently the cause of the lack of motion in the organs is due to severe trauma to the body (i.e. car accidents, falls, etc.) because when the body experiences a traumatic shock, deep structures tighten up protectively.
Recognizing that a dysfunctional relationship between the organs and the musculoskeletal system has been proven to be a source of physical pain or discomfort, visceral manipulation seeks to alleviate this dysfunction.
